In the heart of Assam, the Brahmaputra Volleyball League has emerged as a cornerstone of sportsmanship and community spirit since its inception on September 1, 2019. Spearheaded by the Assam Volleyball Mission-100, the league has swiftly ascended in popularity, not only within the state but across the nation, completing its triumphant fourth edition in Sarbhong on March 26.
A unique blend of inclusivity and ambition marks the league, welcoming eager participants under the ages of 12 and 16, irrespective of gender. This initiative has not only spotlighted Assam on the national sports map but also earned the distinction of being the largest grassroots volleyball league globally by the World Volleyball Federation.

The league thrives on a home and away format, deeply engaging local communities and fostering a vibrant sports culture. This collective effort has ensured that players are not only remunerated but also take pride in donning personalized jerseys, courtesy of team sponsors.
The visionary behind this monumental effort, Abhijit Bhattacharya—founder of the Assam Volleyball Mission-100 and a former captain of the Indian volleyball team—has been a guiding force, emphasizing the importance of collective decision-making and mutual respect in every aspect of the league.

Looking ahead, the Brahmaputra Volleyball League is set to enrich the lives of young athletes, both boys and girls, nurturing their talents in a supportive environment. The dedication of Mission-100 members and the unwavering support from various sectors have been instrumental in the league’s success, proving that unity and cooperation can create a lasting impact.
The league has become a cradle for promoting volleyball in Assam, drawing support from seasoned sports organizers, former athletes, and national level women’s volleyball players, all united in their passion for the game. Operating on a principle of equality, the league also emphasizes social responsibility among its players, involving them in various community activities ranging from environmental conservation to health education.
This year’s edition saw unprecedented participation, with over 4,000 players from 390 teams across 158 centers in 28 districts, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for volleyball. Through initiatives like these, the league aims to foster unity, good health, competitive spirit, and leadership among young athletes.

Abhijit Bhattacharya’s vision of making Assam a leading state in volleyball is gradually becoming a reality, with the Brahmaputra Volleyball League playing a critical role in this journey. His leadership and the widespread support from media have been instrumental in propelling this movement forward, promising a brighter future for volleyball in Assam and beyond.
