Mechukha, an enchanting valley tucked away in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi-Yomi district, has unveiled its latest tourist attraction — a towering 72-foot national flag, making it a beacon for travelers seeking breathtaking landscapes and a sense of national pride.

Strategically located against the backdrop of the majestic Mechukha Hill, this newly established selfie hotspot offers visitors an unmatched blend of natural beauty and patriotic sentiment. The flag, hoisted by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, now stands as a centerpiece of Mechukha’s growing appeal as a tourism destination.

A Spectacle of Patriotism and Scenic Beauty

The flag-hoisting ceremony, organized by the 13 Grenadiers (Ganga Jaisalmer) of the Indian Army, highlighted the seamless collaboration between the armed forces and the local community. Prominent attendees included General Officer Commanding of 3 Corps Lt. Gen. Abhijit Pendharkar, Major General Akash Johar, and Education Minister Passang Dorjee Sona , ADC. Tana Yaho. Together, they celebrated Mechukha’s evolving identity as a hub for tourism and cultural pride.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Minister Mein lauded the contributions of the Indian Army and the ITBP in both securing the borders and fostering regional development. “The hoisting of the national flag is not just a gesture of patriotism but also a symbol of Mechukha’s immense potential to become a global travel destination,” Mein emphasized.

Mechukha: A Treasure Trove of Experiences

Known for its stunning landscapes, crystal-clear rivers, and rich cultural heritage, Mechukha has steadily emerged as a top destination for travelers. With the national flag joining a list of iconic attractions like the Samten Yangchag Monastery, Neh-Pema Shelphu Drupkhang, and the Gurudwara at Tapo Asthan, visitors now have one more reason to explore this picturesque valley. The selfie point beneath the flag provides a perfect setting for memorable photos with Mechukha Hill in the background.

Infrastructure Development for Tourism

During his visit, Mein reviewed several infrastructure projects aimed at boosting tourism, including the proposed 4.5 MW hydropower project on the Yargyapchu, under-construction bridges at Thargelling village, PMGSY roads, and the Rainbow Trout Hatchery Farm at Dechenthang. These initiatives reflect the state government’s commitment to enhancing Mechukha’s connectivity and hospitality offerings.
